According to sources at Wccftech, there is a possibility that the TDP of AMD's Ryzen 7 9700X may be raised to 120 Watts, exceeding the initially announced 65 Watts. AMD stated in an interview earlier this year that the last-gen Ryzen 7000X3D chips would outperform the newly-announced Ryzen 9000 chips in gaming. The Ryzen 9000 chips are expected to be available for purchase by the end of July. AMD's TDP segmentation for the upper-mid-range Ryzen 7 9700X is intriguing, as it is limited to just 65 Watts of power. Wccftech has obtained information that this could potentially change before the chips are launched. In an interview conducted earlier this year, AMD explicitly stated that the previous-generation Ryzen 7000X3D processors would outperform the newly-revealed Ryzen 9000 chips in gaming. The Ryzen 9000 chips are expected to be available for purchase by the end of July. AMD's approach to TDP segmentation this time around is intriguing, as the Ryzen 7 9700X, positioned in the upper-mid-range segment, is capped at a power consumption of only 65 Watts. It has been brought to Wccftech's attention that this specification might undergo alterations prior to the official launch. AMD may increase the Ryzen 7 9700X's TDP to 120 Watts before release, placing it in line with the Ryzen 9 9900X. It is uncertain if it will come with a corresponding clock uplift. This would make it slightly more power-hungry than the previous generation Ryzen 7 7700X (105 W). Our review of the Ryzen 7 7700X demonstrated that the CPU could consume up to 130 Watts of power under load, and it will be intriguing to see how the Ryzen 7 9700X performs in comparison. Zen 5 has exceeded expectations, showcasing impressive performance improvements compared to its predecessors. For instance, the Ryzen 9 9950X has demonstrated a significant 2x uplift in specific workloads when compared to the Ryzen 9 7950X. Even laptop processors like the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 are delivering exceptional desktop-level performance in benchmarks such as Cinebench 2024. Additionally, the upcoming X3D variants are anticipated to launch as soon as September/October, with high-end models potentially offering double the 3D V-cache of previous generation processors.
