The Real Story of M. Zubair’s EWC 2026 Tekken Win.

The EWC 2026 Paris Heist: M Zubair Entered the Tournament Through the Backdoor And Left With $300,000!

M Zubair winning the esports world cup 2026 at Paris.

As people were debating on Twitter, and some were sleeping, Khawaja Muhammad Zubair, popularly known as “Bablu” in the land of the crazy Tekken gaming tournament, did something at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, which nobody and I mean nobody had him in their head for.

He won it all. The Tekken 8 World Championship at the Esports World Cup 2026. A $300,000 prize. Thirty-two of the best gamers in the world, and the guy basically sneaked in through the back door, got booted twice and somehow walked away with the trophy.

Let that one sink in for a moment!

Zubair Wasn't Even Supposed to be in the Tournament!

Most folks don’t know that M. Zubair had to put in twice the effort than any other competitor. Here’s how: Two months prior to the EWC tournament, Zubair was actually eliminated from the group stage. Yep. He didn’t even make it to the playing brackets. Then how come he won it all?

Unlike the heavyweight names like Arslan Ash, LowHigh, Ulsan, and all the rest that everyone in the fighting game community already knew would be playing in the main event of EWC 2026, he was not seeded into the main draw. He had to battle through the middle of the Last Chance Qualifier, with all 444 players in one bracket and to make the cut for the actual tournament.

The Arslan Ash Problem: How Zubair Solved it Twice!

M Zubair defeated Arslan Ash at the EWC 2026 semi finals and moved forward into the finals.

Arslan "Ash" Siddique - the GOAT of Tekken tournaments. Eight-time EVO champion. The guy foreign commentators call a "legend" without irony. He'd just come off winning EVO 2026 in Las Vegas for the fourth consecutive time, a month before Paris. This is not a man you're supposed to beat once, let alone twice, in the same tournament.

Zubair beat him twice.

First in the group stage; a clean 3-0. Everyone assumed it was a fluke, an off day for Ash, the kind of upset that gets forgotten by the semifinals. Then the bracket brought them back together in the semifinal, and this time it wasn't clean at all. Nine games. Back and forth. The kind of set where you stop breathing properly somewhere around game six. Zubair closed it 5-4.

Two Pakistanis, on the largest fighting gaming platform the world has seen, beating the absolute hell out of each other for a place in the final. Only one would proceed and it was Zubair.

There were two spectators on the opposite side, a South Korean and an Australian. It's like a romantic tragedy, if there's such a thing when two Dragunovs and a Bryan are getting launched into walls.

Ash would later finish the tournament 4th, having lost the third place decider 5-2 to Australia's Yagami. This was surely someone else’s weekend.

A 5-0 Grand Final Murder Scene

M. Zubair defeated the finalist, Lowhigh 5-0 to win the EWC 2026 tournament.

Everyone expects the final round, the grand finale to be an intense showdown. Well…..it was Meh.

Zubair faced off South Korea's reigning 2025 Tekken World Tour champ Yoon "LowHigh" Sun-woong, who was the runner up at the EWC the previous year and on paper the more "complete" player entering that final. But Zubair simply tore him apart. 5-0. Not one game was dropped. By far one of the most technically proficient players in the world, LowHigh barely found his feet.

The semifinal against Ash was pure horror for Zubair, but the final? A walk in the park. Watching someone cruise through one of the world championships and almost make it look like he was doing nothing but riding the wind, it's not something you see every day, right?

He won the $250,000 grand prize, and a $50,000 bonus, known as the Jafonso Award. The bonus is only for players who manage to get through the Last Chance Qualifier. It has only been done once before, in a completely different game, in 2024, so Zubair is a pretty legendary club.

He remained grounded when people asked him how he obtained the 5-0 sweep. He put all the success down to the hours that he spent at home working out and his training partner who worked him constantly before Paris and someone he didn't fail to ensure he was hyped up on the biggest platform he could imagine.

Why This Matters More Than a Trophy

For years, Pakistan's association with competitive gaming has been more or less a one-man institution called Arslan Ash. For him, it would have been a casual and much expected win. But for someone else like Zubair, it's a bit of an improvised knee.

Zubair has simply demonstrated that there’s a lot of talent in Pakistan. He's no protégé in some academy, nor is he preceded by ten years of hype. He is a man who had lost his first international appearance, returned home, practiced in local formats that the rest of the world won't ever catch and then returned to come up against the players that were to keep the throne. He was part of Numan Ch's team that went to the LCQ. A quarter win for Raef. Two victories over Ash. The 5-0 win against the reigning world tour champion.

That's definitely a golden generation talent. And who knows, there might be several such talents sitting in a gaming cafe, playing casually.

It was a weekend where we could show people and say, 'this is why Pakistani gaming needs real infrastructure, not just internet fame'.

Want to Play Like the Champs? Don't Blame the Lag!

Watching an underdog win on such a grand stage, surely pumps adrenaline into so many gamers. But, it can be said for sure that Zubair put in years of practice and hard work to achieve what he did!

And more importantly, he must’ve practiced on gear that hones his skills. That monitor with zero lag, and a PC that doesn't choke the second you open OBS to stream your bracket run at a local.. It wasn't just good fortune for Zubair that he got to the end, someone made sure that his setup didn't crash and burn at the right moment.

Gamers of Pakistan, who want to excel in the gaming tournament industry, should therefore, never neglect their equipment. Practice on a high-end PC, use the best accessories that would get you the W!

Where to find such gear? ZAH Computers! We’ve been putting together custom gaming PCs, upgrades, gaming monitors and components for the Pakistani gaming crowd for a while now. The type of builds designed for the person who actually cares about frame timing, not just spec sheets, during a 5-game string.

Because somewhere in Lahore, Karachi, or Islamabad right now, there's probably another Zubair, eliminated in some group stage nobody wrote about, quietly getting back on the stick. Might as well make sure the hardware isn't what holds them back.
